Devolution #7 – Lonely Mountains: Downhill

During AMAZE. / Berlin 2023 at Devolution #7, we delved into the development journey of Lonely Mountains: Downhill. The exhibition offered a rare behind-the-scenes look at how the game evolved from concept to completion, showcasing several early prototypes and interim versions.

Exhibition

Visitors could explore a timeline of the game’s evolution – playing in-between versions and comparing them to each other to discover how the game’s mechanics, visuals and atmosphere evolved over time.

The exhibition featured a commit booklet and other accompanying material that highlighted the development style of the team and their mood at different stages of the process.

Timeline

Core of the exhibition was a visualised timeline of the development process, adding a lots of contextual information about each of the steps and the whole process.

Guided Tours

Beyond gameplay, guests had the chance to meet the developers behind Lonely Mountains: Downhill – Daniel Helbig, Jan Bubenik and Anna Bloser. Guided tours and talks by the team provided unique insights into the challenges, breakthroughs, and inspirations that shaped the game. Attendees had the chance to directly ask questions and got even deeper understanding about the creative decisions and technical innovations that defined its development.
